Ten minutes of nature every day
Every day the owl brings a new topic, from rivers and birds to waste and invasive species, with ten questions and three hearts. The class can take it together to open a lesson, or each pupil on their own at home.
PicusGO is a free app where pupils and students learn how to look after nature through play and quizzes. They put what they learn to use right away in their own area: they scan trees and follow their health, and report litter and hazards around the school. We are open to partnerships with educational institutions, from primary schools to universities.
A Croatian project · Agilos IT d.o.o., Zagreb · iOS and Android
Rangers across Croatia have already put 41,426 trees on the map, and your class can start with the first tree in the schoolyard.
The curriculum is set nationally, and the teacher runs the lesson. PicusGO stays out of that. We offer a platform that fits easily into what you already do: a short daily topic about nature, followed by a real task in the schoolyard, in the park or on the way to school. Pupils see that their tree photo or litter report ends up on the map and that someone from the community follows it up.
Every day the owl brings a new topic, from rivers and birds to waste and invasive species, with ten questions and three hearts. The class can take it together to open a lesson, or each pupil on their own at home.
A hundred passed topics earn the EcoCertificate. That makes a clear goal for the whole school year and a good reason for praise at the end of the term.
The camera recognizes the tree species, and the tree gets its own place on the map and a collectible card. Biology and geography get an example that grows twenty meters from the classroom.
Every scanned tree stays on the map, so year after year the class sees the list of trees around the school grow. You can use the map for a class project or a poster in the hallway.
Litter, hazards and ragweed are reported with a photo and location, and the report becomes a mission on the map that other rangers confirm or clean up. We also pass reports on to the local authorities, so pupils see what caring for the environment looks like in a real community.
Rangers compete in leagues, and those who stay in Rainforest, the top league, earn a real tree planted with their name. A competition between classes or schools can be arranged with you as a special event.
The app is for users aged 13 and over. With younger classes, the teacher runs the activity on one device or projects EcoSchool onto a screen.
You don't need to change your timetable. Five to ten minutes at the start of a lesson and one trip outside whenever it suits you are enough.
The class takes an EcoSchool topic together on the projector, or everyone on their own phone. In primary school it is a shared game, in secondary school a quick review, and at university a topic between lectures.
Pupils scan the trees around the school, get to know the species and note what they spot, from litter to a broken branch. Every tree and every report shows up on the map right away.
In the next lesson the class looks at the map, the reports and the points they collected. It is a good way into a talk about who looks after green spaces and who to contact when something is wrong.
A report from the app is information to be checked. It is not an expert finding or an official order.
We know teachers already have a full schedule. That is why we don't ask for new forms, reports or training.
We agree on content, dates and responsibilities with you, based on what your school or university wants to achieve.
A day when a class or the whole school explores the trees nearby, takes EcoSchool topics and cleans up an agreed area. We help with the activity plan and a safe way to take part in the field.
Rangers who earn a tree in Rainforest can suggest where it is planted, for example by the school. A joint planting for the school is arranged with you and local partners, with the necessary permits.
Students of forestry, biology, geography or computer science can work with data on trees and reports for a seminar paper or thesis. The scope and the way the data is accessed are agreed separately, with personal data protected.
Using the app in class does not depend on a paid partnership. Special projects and events are agreed with a clearly defined scope before they start.
PicusGO is developed by Agilos IT d.o.o. The project is led by a university professor of forest ecology, people from the world of data and software, and a PhD in entrepreneurship and EU funding.
